Question: Can the chamber send out an email promoting a member’s activity or event – or list it on its website?
Answer : We do send out a small number of external events notices when they are on subjects of specific interest to a group of members, or all members. This might include, for example, information from government, public authorities, or the EU institutions, but might also occasionally cover other stakeholders such as NGOs where we think this will be particularly useful for the chamber and its members.
However, we try to minimise this for three reasons:
• we are very conscious of controlling the volume of email traffic to our members
• we must be seen to treat members equally
• reputation management is very important to the chamber
The chamber will occasionally come to an arrangement with other organisations, especially members, to publicise their activities as part of a broader promotional agreement. This may be as part of a paid service, or as a media swap agreement which helps the chamber to promote or position itself with key audiences.
This would not usually include direct emailings to members, except for a very limited number of cases, for example, where we promote the work of our Patron members, who provide very significant support to the overall work of the chamber.
We are looking into ways that the chamber can help to promote the work of its members further. We already use social media for this purpose, but have to be selective in order to ensure that our audience continues to be attracted by the content we offer. Future services may include a website service where members can upload their news for the attention of fellow members and other site visitors.
