Event report
This event was organised by the Sustainability & Shared Value task force, part of the British Chamber Business in Belgium Group
The mission of the Sustainable Business Development task force of the British chamber is to inform members and other stakeholders about sustainability, provide access to high level speakers, experts and insights around sustainability and help members green their own businesses and organisations. The British Chamber's 1st Annual Green Design & Innovation Forum, themed “Creating A Green Future” is the culmination of this year’s task force events and activities, bringing all parties together and providing a wider platform to exchange ideas and information.
The insight behind the theme of this year’s conference “Creating a green future” is the growing realisation that sustainability will only have the impact that is needed to limit global warming and maintain biodiversity when there is a significant change in our way of living, working and producing going forward. This will only happen when sustainability becomes “mainstream”, when the alternatives offered are not only more sustainable, but also attractive enough, easy enough to do, cost effective enough for everybody to adopt them, hence the importance of Design and Innovation in finding more sustainable solutions.
The speaker list will include industry specialists and young entrepreneurs, a mix of high profile people and the perfect knowledge sources.
During the conference we will showcase companies and individuals and have panel discussions about sustainable innovation and design solutions, and successes. There will be a very interesting mix of high level business people and policy makers, NGO’s, entrepreneurs and designers, we will have presentations of the design student finalists of the 5R Hero Design Awards, the European design & innovation competition for sustainability, and there will be a marketplace with sustainability vendors and social entrepreneurs.
As this conference is all about showcasing and discussion the “implementation of green ideas/solutions into today’s business for a greener tomorrow” sponsors have a great opportunity to be seen as a leader/an early adapter in the area of sustainability and shared value, showcasing their green credentials, using the British Chamber platform as a valuable network to promote their sustainable practice.
The British Chamber's Sustainability & Shared Value task force likes to be seen as a thought leader on sustainable issues, filling the current gap as a forum for green business discussions.
There is a bewildering amount of ‘Specialist’ organisations and events dealing with sustainability and shared value in Brussels already. The Chamber has a great opportunity to play a key role in ‘filtering’ the most relevant topics for its members and translates this in practical terms.
